The Prevention Division aims to reduce the risk of cancer in the Victorian population through social marketing, advocacy, professional training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to support health and wellbeing.
The Heritage Project is a part of the Prevention Division and is responsible for documenting Cancer Council Victoria’s extensive history and organising its archive for use in current cancer control campaigns. It therefore sits in the Prevention Team, which is responsible for running Cancer Council Victoria’s many cancer control campaigns, most famously SunSmart and QUIT.
About your opportunity
We are seeking a Heritage Project Research Assistant to join the Prevention Division.
Reporting to the Manager, Heritage Project, your role is to:
- Organise the team of Heritage Intern Research Assistants in uncovering and documenting Cancer Council Victoria’s extensive history in cancer control and public health advocacy.
- Support them in digitising and organising materials for existing historical research projects.
- Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders relating to Cancer Council Victoria’s heritage materials.
- Support existing research projects with literature reviews and archival research as required by team researchers.
- Conduct new archival research as required to complete ongoing projects.
- Assist in preparation of grants and their administration within Cancer Council Victoria
All about you
We are looking for someone with:
- A tertiary degree in history, sociology, public health, or related field.
- Excellent qualitative/document analysis abilities.
- Demonstrated experience in public history and/or working in the not-for-profit sector.
- Experience conducting archival research and archive organisation.
- Strong organisation skills, with an ability to work autonomously and the proven ability to meet deadlines
