The Prevention Division aims to prevent cancer for all Victorians. This is done through community interventions, mass media, advocacy, training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to reduce cancer risk. We prioritise health inequalities, especially in relation to Aboriginal people, and in culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities.

UNIT SUMMARY

The Quit program is a joint initiative of Cancer Council Victoria, the Department of Health and VicHealth. Quit sits within the Prevention Division at CCV and includes:

  • National Cessation Platform (quit.org.au) - a digital platform which supports all Australians who smoke and/or vape to quit and stay quit
  • Quitline Services - telephone counselling service for smoking and vaping cessation in Victoria, South Australia, NT and Western Australia
  • Quit Victoria - focussed on equitably reducing tobacco related harm across Victoria through social marketing campaigns, policy and advocacy, research and evaluation, and health & community systems level initiatives to prevent uptake of smoking and/or vaping and increased cessation support to all Victorians
  • National Best Practice Support Service for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation (Quit Centre) - provides health professionals with the latest clinical information, resources and training on smoking and vaping cessation.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a Medical Lead to join the Quit Victoria team. Reporting to the State Manager of Quit Victoria your role is to:

  • Support the development of evidence-based smoking and vaping cessation care resources and tools aligned with behaviour change best-practice for people who smoke and /or vape and want to quit
  • Champion centrality of health professionals in smoking and vaping cessation care
  • Ensure currency and accuracy of the medical information in Quit publications and communications, and ensure consistency of this information across Quit programs
  • Engage with and monitor health sector clinical stakeholders in Victoria, including Primary Health Networks, RACGP, and GP clinics to understand the landscape and provide insights at a state level.

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Current unconditional registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Vocational registration through Fellowship with either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), or a recognised equivalent
  • Current medical indemnity insurance
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively including high-level written and verbal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and function as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve complex problems in a timely manner
  • Ability to critically analyse resources and identify gaps in best practice and current research
  • Proven organisational, planning, problem solving and time management skills, including the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to meet deadlines
