The Finance, Risk & Audit Committee assists the Board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities in relation to financial management, financial reporting, risk management, systems of internal control, internal and external audit and compliance with laws and regulations.

 

About your opportunity

We are seeking expressions of interest for a Committee Member to enhance the Cancer Council’s mission to prevent cancer, empower people and save lives.

 

The Finance, Risk & Audit Committee (FRAC) undertakes duties as delegated by the Board including providing advice and recommendations. The scope of the FRAC covers strategic matters relating to audit, finance and risk management.

 

The duties and responsibilities of the Committee include but are not limited to:

  • Review the integrity of financial documents.
  • Provide reasonable assurance that the organisation’s strategic objectives are realised and achieved through effective and efficient measures within the standard framework of corporate risk management and internal control.
  • Oversee the corporate risk management and internal audit functions to enhance Cancer Council’s governance, internal control systems and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure the independence, objectivity and effectiveness of internal audit in carrying out financial and operational assessments.
  • Assess and evaluate the internal audit plan to ensure that material corporate risks to the financial and operational environment are prioritised; and
  • Promote transparency, integrity and ethical conduct.

 

The Committee meets a minimum six times per year, for 2 hours. All meetings are hybrid allowing attendees to join virtually or in person at our East Melbourne Office.

About you

We are seeking an applicant who can analyse financial information and identify areas of concern and opportunity, review and contribute to the development of new policies and procedures, provide oversight and guidance to the organisation’s risk management framework and processes and who has knowledge and expertise in internal audit functions, accounting, legal, risk management, and OH&S.

 

Prior experience on a board committee is not essential, however, experience working with not-for-profit organisations is preferred. Knowledge of the health care sector and a commitment to cancer issues would be an advantage.
